Naguales are the anthropomorphic creatures that were said to roam the gorges of ancient Mexico at night. Naguales live today in the culture of modern Mexico, but can be traced back to 200 B.C. In ancient society the items had ritual or ceremonial uses (funerary objects). Now they are used mostly for display.
This volume explores the history of these magic animals as well as the contemporary potters and their art from the regions of Tonala, Tlaquepaque, Gudalajara, etc. Some of the pottery families highlighted include: Jorge Wilmot, The Solis Family (Aurea, Cenon, Guadalupe, and Pio), Amado Galvan, Candelario Medrano, Salvador Vasquez, Simeon Galvan, Basulto, and The Lucano Family.
